They had sold approximately 1.5 million copies and were into their third printing within five months of their original release. Over a billion and a half of these books were sold as of 1992, the golden anniversary of the books. The distinctive appearance of these books has remained the same over the last 60 years, even though some of the details are now different. A new copy of The Pokey Little Puppy would look very much like an original copy from 1942. New titles have been added to the series which include some favorite childrens characters such as the Muppets and Power Rangers.
